The word Yule has its origins from the Old Norse "iul", which means "wheel." Yule, or Winter Solstice, celebrates the shortest day and longest night of the year. It is a time to honor the rebirth of the Sun from the dark womb of the Goddess. One traditional activity for this sacred day is the lighting of the Yule Log to symbolize the renewed strength of the Sun. The ashes of the log used to be scattered in the fields to insure a prosperous year to come. Popular colors are green to denote the Earth, and red for the Sun. Candles are lit to help bring forth the new light and life into the world. ![]() ![]()
